Welcome to The Safari Set

Welcome to The Safari Set where Foundation Stage and Key Stage One work as a unit.

Mrs Davenport has responsbility for Foundation Stage and Mrs Duffield the Year 2's. They both share the Year 1's!

We have 14 reception children, 10 Year 1 and 13 Year 2. Our teaching assistants are Mrs Bills and Mrs Burnett.

Let's hope they work!

We made umbrellas using different materials.

We then tested them to see which would protect us from the rain!

Our outdoor suits ensure that we can always play outside no matter what the weather.

We all brought our bikes and scooters to school for the day.

We had so much fun!

We change our role play area to link in with our interests.  We currently have a home-corner and a mechanics garage.  Here we are fixing a car that had ran out of petrol.

We paint on large and small scale; here we are painting our news.  What have you been up to this weekend?

A local car garage donated our car tyres.  It is great fun playing with them in our outdoor classroom.

We have challenges in the different areas of the classroom.  Here we are trying to solve the number challenge.

Our challenge was to make large vehicles for the reception children.

First we discussed our ideas...

Then we cut a large hole from the top and make straps using string.

Finally we decorated them!

We even wrote instructions of how to make them!

We loved this activity!!

Our free flow outdoor area allows us to paint inside and out.   We are all fantastic artists; can you guess what we are painting?

“Highfield Garage” is a very busy place to be, there is always someone needing help to fix his or her car!  We are very reasonably priced!

During our topic on weather, we painted different weather symbols on the windows!

We decided to make guitars during golden time and then performed a song to Mrs Duffield

During numeracy we have been learning to count objects by grouping them into sets.

We then counted in ten's!

The Foundation Stage children enjoy working together in the outdoor area.

In literacy, we have read lots of stories about the Lighthouse Keeper by Ronda and David Armitage. We enjoy pretending to be Mr and Mrs Grinling!

During our letters and sounds, we are learning to form our letters correctly.

We love to be creative in a variety of ways!

As part of a learning challenge we had to plan and prepare our own picnic.

We all visited Scarborough and had a ride on an open top bus!

We played in the sand...

and ate delicious ice-creams!!

The PTA kindly bought us some new bikes from some of the money that they raised. We think they are fantastic!

During PE we are learning to throw and catch!

We developed our role-play area into a seaside setting. We think our jellyfish are amazing!
